Nature Suspense
2023 interactive installation
Humans often assume superiority over nature, exploiting it for their benefit. But nature’s autonomous character shapes our lives beyond our control. It dictates seasons, influences weather, and drives independent life cycles. Nature’s power can also cause havoc and inflict suffering. Magnificence and danger coexist. Recognizing nature’s autonomy cultivates an understanding of our interdependence, respecting the delicate balance between human autonomy and the autonomous forces of nature.
The work reveals how even in moments of control, we remain entangled within larger ecological systems that surpass human will. By engaging with nature not as an object but as an active counterpart, Nature Suspense invites reflection on our shared interdependence and the limits of human autonomy.
